The Dragon of Peña Oroel.

In the surroundings of Jaca, in the Spanish Pyrenees a town that was once the capital of the Kingdom of Aragon there lies the tale of the Dragon of Oroel.

According to this ancient legend, a fearsome dragon dwelled in a cave on the slopes of the iconic Peña Oroel, terrorizing the villagers of the valley. At that time, a brave knight from Jaca, who had been imprisoned for defending the witches of the region, offered to face the dragon in exchange for his freedom.

However, before embarking on this mission, the witches of the valley—grateful for his protection—revealed a secret to him: dragons had the ability to hypnotize their prey with their gaze. Therefore, the knight polished the surface of his shield until it became a mirror. With it in hand, he ventured into the dragon’s cave while the beast was still sleeping.

When the dragon awoke, it caught sight of its own reflection in the shield and became hypnotized by its own image. Seizing the moment, the knight drove his sword through the heart of the legendary creature.
